Get ahead following these 5 steps. 1) Build an exciting company culture The best companies will most often attract the best people. So the first step to hire better talent is to build an exciting company that great people want to work for. One of the most powerful and sustainable motivators is the sense of meaning derived from the work you do. The excitement you get from building and doing something great that people will love. Culture is another important factor, which will attract great talent. Ben Silbermann, CEO of Pinterest, once said: “Culture is a lot more like gardening than architecture”. Build an environment full of challenges in which employees can develop themselves. Recruiting for culture, not just for skills, is an important point. 2 ) Set a benchmark for quality. Setting a benchmark for quality is essential. Define before your search, what you are looking for. Steve Jobs already famously said, Make sure youre hiring only A-players. Hire a few B-players and they hire Bs and Cs, and pretty soon the whole operation is going to pot.” Never compromise on your benchmark as employees will lose respect as soon as you do. You should know exactly what you want. Don’t hire average people and don’t just fill jobs as fast as you can. 3) Use all channels Recruitment is a social business, so you have to be social to find better talent. Finding talent comes down to one thing â€" who you know. It’s about getting out there and meeting people, staying connected and spreading the word about what a terrific company you are. This is an important factor, which will never change over the years of growth. Great people will always work on something, so it is about timing and surprising them with a chance. Join meet-up groups to build a network and get closer to talent. It’s best to get out there, and look beyond LinkedIn, as 3 out of 4 users on LinkedIn are currently over 35 years old. Getting out and networking is one of the most effective methods of finding talent. Keep searching all the time on all channels. Try Twitter Facebook to run campaigns and target your audience. Finding the right candidates at the right time. Therefore every employee in a company should always be looking out for great talent. Make sure you have others in the team, as well as employees outside the team, interviewing your candidate to assess him objectively. Why Should I Get Involved in Equity Crowdfunding This is a guest post by Krissa Curran, female entrepreneur, serial #sidehustler and mid-20s career girl. In this post  she  gives us  the low down on equity crowd-funding, and talks about how in order to reap rewards, you have to first dive in!   So when people think about investing, buying shares or stocks in a company, heck when people think about start-ups especially technology-based ones! chances are they have some slick, Wall Street banker or Silicon Valley Zuckerberg-type geniuses pop into their heads. The Jordan Belfort wolves and Peter Gregory types from the eponymous HBO hit TV series, “Silicon Valley”, played by the late Christopher Evan Welch. Slightly eccentric, modern-day mad scientist type “corporates” who seem to just “get it”. Guys that have been coding or investing in small stocks since their mid-teens (I actually know a few of these!),  who can read fluctuations on the NASDAQ exchange like a musician can read sheet music, an anchorman can read weather, or a photographer can read and manipulate light. But the good news is, thanks to the rising popularity of crowdfunding and most recently  equitybased crowdfunding, all this doesn’t have to  seem so remote, so abstract, so cold and so intimidating anymore. At least, I hope not after the end of this article. After all, I’m a 27-year old  â€œthird culture kid” who owns a travel-tech start-up. Yes, I’m a career woman. No, I don’t code myself. But yes, I do lead and manage a team of very talented developers who do! And not only have I managed to get my head around at the very least the basics of all this, I’ve actually kickstarted  my own equity-based crowdfunding campaign as well! So here’s what I know and what I can tell you: All over the start-up world we’re starting to see entrepreneurs using equity crowdfunding, or “crowdinvesting”, to seek their next round of funding. In short, what these new business owners are all asking their friends, family and friends of friends (potentially the whole wide world) is to give them money in exchange for shares (equity) in their company. Unfortunately, most people still don’t get what this all means. Are there risks? If so, what are they? What are the benefits? And how can I ensure they’re worth it? Since I and my wonderful team at Friends of Friends Travel (FOF Travel) are running our own equity crowdfunding campaign we thought we might as well explain it a little more by answering a few common questions weve gotten recently.

How Many Hours Per Week Constitutes Part-Time The Answer Here - Algrim.co Wondering how many working hours per week determines what constitutes part-time employment? The answer is simple but the way we think about this question socially is what might surprise you. Full-time employment and part-time employment aren’t that different from one another. Full-time employment is only different because your employer has determined it’s full time. Let’s jump into the differences between these two types of employment and how this impacts what makes you a part-time employee. Part-Time In Your Agreement What If I Feel I Should Be Full-Time Various Types Of Part-Time Jobs Should I Work Full-Time or Part Time? The Legal Aspect Of Part-Time Employment Hours If you were to ask the Beaueru of Labor Statistics, which controls labor information in the United States, they would tell you that 35 hours a week is considered full-time employment. So does that mean that anything under 35 hours per week is considered part-time? The answer would technically be “yes”. But it could also be “no” as well. Standard full-time employment used to be 40 hours per week. That is what used to constitute full-time employment. But with more employees working flexible schedules, working multiple jobs, working evening jobs or working freelance, this has changed. The freelance economy has changed a lot of the ways we work. Including what constitutes part-time employment. The harsh reality is that there is no legal requirement for the number of hours that you have to work and what would make you a full-time employee. If your employment agreement states that you are part-time employment, then you are part-time. You and your employer will determine the number of hours each week that you can work. If this goes over 35 hours per week, that doesn’t mean you immediately become a full-time employee. There is no legal bearing on this. Part-Time Has Become Very Popular For the most part, part-time employment has increased. But it has increased because employees are looking for more flexibility. They want to be able to work multiple jobs, work in the evening and still pursue their own ventures (like freelancing). This is why companies like WeWork have become popular over the past few years, they’ve realized that our “gig economy” is growing and that more employment is temporary or committed only on a short term level. The benefits of part-time are great. You might be able to: Work from home more frequently. Take care of your elders or children at home. Invest your time into a part-time project or business venture. Work multiple jobs and earn additional income. Control your own expenses and benefits. These values have outweighed what many people would consider the benefits of working full-time. Full-Time VS. Part-Time In Your Agreement You’ll know if you are a full-time employee. Your employer will tell you. If you’d like to transition from being part-time to being full-time, it can be as easy as having a discussion with your employer. When you’re employed on a full-time basis, the parts of your contract that you might not like are the following: You may not be able to take on additional employment. Such as an additional part-time job or evening job. You may not have strict working hours. Which means some weeks you may work 15 hours, other weeks you may work 50 hours. You may have to abide by certain company policies in order to stay within your agreement to the company. These can feel restrictive to some people. And they tend to opt for part-time employment instead. What If I Feel I Should Be Full-Time If you are feeling that you should be a full-time employee because you are working more than 35 hours a week, this isn’t something you are going to be able to push through “on a legal basis.” You may simply have to have a difficult discussion with your employer, mentioning that you desire to be full-time in order to receive the benefits they offer and that the hours you work constitutes having upward mobility with the company. Various Types Of Part-Time Jobs There are many types of part-time jobs. For example, if you were to work at Starbucks as a Barista, you may work 35 hours a week and still be considered part-time. Even if that were your only level of employment, that might still be considered part-time. But Starbucks, for example, says that if you work more than 40 hours per week, you’ll be able to receive benefits within the company. Those benefits include stock options, healthcare, and more. That’s not because you passed a certain legal threshold of hours. Technically, after working 40 hours per week, you might still be in a “part-time” job. But Starbucks has a policy of rewarding workers who are with the company that period of time per week. A salary position, is usually considered full-time. Anything hourly is usually considered part-time. This is the best way to measure whether or not you are full-time or part-time, regardless of the hours you work or benefits you might receive. Some part-time positions are offered benefits, which is why this isn’t a great way to measure whether or not you’re full-time. The best way to measure your job security is by the way you are compensated. Salary positions are inherently more committal to the employee. It perceives them as a long-term investment, seeing their compensation outlook at least one year in advance of their signing of the employment agreement. Should I Work Full-Time or Part Time? This is all dependent on what you value. And where you see your life going. If you feel like you can work a full-time position, that their employment agreement says you can work an additional part-time job, and you decide to take one. Then that’s a beautiful thing. Don’t burn yourself out! If you feel like you’d like to invest your time working for both an employer and yourself. In some type of mixture between freelancing and full-time employment, then maybe a few part-time positions are right for you. This would constitute “contracting” or “freelancing”. Find what you want in your life, what you need, and then figure out what type of employment is best for you. Consider your friends, family, free time and more before jumping into a decision. Making money without investing money They say that money breeds money. That may well be the case â€" If you have money to invest, you can certainly find simple ways to make a profit. However, if you don’t have access to a pile of spare cash, do not despair. There are still plenty of methods for you to make money. In fact, if you have energy and time, then this can prove to be a more lucrative investment than cash in the quest to make money. Although this is by no means an exhaustive list, here are some great ideas: Social media marketing It is no surprise that social media can be a money maker. More than half a million items are shared on Facebook each minute and there are numerous opportunities to interact on Twitter, Instagram, etc. How can you monetize this relentless activity? It can be as easy as setting up a Facebook page, Twitter account or Pinterest board dedicated to a specific issue or product. You will need to invest time in building a following, but once this reaches critical mass, then you can direct traffic towards further information and ultimately sales. Teach online The Internet revolution has brought with it so many more opportunities to make money, quite often by globalising previously localised services. Teaching is a great example of this. In order to teach, you don’t need to actually attend a classroom or lecture theatre anymore. Due to the wonders of Skype and other communication platforms, you can teach wherever you happen to have an Internet connection. You can also make resources available online to help your students. Of course, you still need excellent teaching skills, but in essence whatever your subject, there is probably someone willing to pay in order to learn. Mystery shopper So not all money-making schemes are reserved for the online world. If you like shopping or indeed eating in cafes and restaurants, then incredibly you can get paid for your time. Market research companies are always looking out for mystery shoppers, who are given the task of purchasing an item in a specific store or eating in a particular outlet and then reporting back on their experience. Typically, mystery shoppers are paid $12-$25 per task, but will also receive free perks such as items purchased, meals, etc. Beware though of Internet mystery shopper scams (there is also a downside to the online revolution). No genuine service will ask for a registration fee. Rent our space This is almost so obvious that it is in danger of being overlooked. If you have spare space, then why not use it? If you have a spare room, then you can probably find yourself a tenant. Remember though that you will need to draw up a solid contract first. If you are looking for something less permanent, then platforms such as the popular Airbnb allow you to rent your spare accommodation on a short-term basis to tourists and visitors. You should also think more widely abo     ut monetizing your space. Perhaps you have a spare parking spot or an area which could be used as a studio or workshop. Just remember, space is valuable, so make the most of it. Online surveys Believe it or not, there are plenty of people who want to know what you think! Companies launching a new product, public officials testing policies and organizations looking for a slogan are just some examples of how online surveys are used. And so long as you give an honest opinion, you can be paid for your thoughts. Some online surveys are just a series of questions which take little time to complete. Other models include online focus groups which require more of a group interaction.
